CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A bizarre incident at the Salvation Army on North Bridge Street led to the destruction of the front door and a criminal mischief charge for a local man.
On August 11, 2024, officers were dispatched to the Salvation Army at 1419 N. Bridge Street after reports of a damaged front door. Upon arrival, officers discovered the door on the north side of the building had been shattered, with a trash can lying on its side in front of the entrance. The building was cleared, revealing no one inside and no signs of further damage, though the cash register was found open and empty.
As officers investigated, Larry Galliher, a Chillicothe resident, contacted dispatch claiming responsibility for the damage. Galliher, who met officers nearby, recounted a bizarre and unsettling confrontation. He claimed that while on the Salvation Army lot, he was repeatedly poked in the head by an unknown male behind a clear barrier, causing him to nearly lose consciousness. Galliher alleged that the man then masturbated and ejaculated on his shirt, prompting him to retaliate by throwing a trash can, which broke the door’s glass.
At the request of the Salvation Army’s management, Galliher was charged with criminal mischief and issued a summons to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on August 12, 2024. He was also barred from the property.
