CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe Police are investigating why a convicted sex offender was present at an elementary school this week.

Officers were dispatched to Chillicothe Primary School at 235 Cherry Street following a report of a sex offense, according to the Chillicothe Police Department. Officer Joshua Wright’s report indicates that the caller, who initially reported the incident, claimed the sex offender was seen in the school’s cafeteria with children. The caller, the report said, also notified the school principal about the situation.

The individual in question, identified by the caller as 51-year-old Eric Palmer, was convicted of attempted rape of a juvenile male in 1995 and released from prison in October 2010.

Palmer reportedly left the school before police arrived. The investigation into the incident has been handed over to detectives for further examination.
