ATHENS, Ohio – The Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced plans for an OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) checkpoint this Saturday evening. The checkpoint will be organized in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.
The specific location of the checkpoint will be disclosed tomorrow morning. This advance notice aligns with legal and constitutional requirements, as mandated by the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1990 ruling. The ruling upheld the constitutionality of OVI checkpoints, provided they are publicized beforehand to protect individuals’ Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures.
