COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) reported a decline in unemployment claims for the week of August 11 to August 17, 2024. Ohioans filed 4,945 initial unemployment claims during this period, a decrease of 443 from the previous week. Out of these, approximately 717 claims were flagged for additional identity verification to prevent fraud.
The number of continued unemployment claims also fell to 43,023, down by 775 from the previous week. The total number of unemployment claims for the week was 47,968.
As of July, Ohio’s unemployment rate stood at 4.5%, compared to the national rate of 4.3%. The labor force participation rate in Ohio was 62.3% in July, slightly below the national rate of 62.7%.
