COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health is providing much-needed support for individuals struggling to afford dental care through its Dental OPTIONS program. This initiative, which connects adults in need with volunteer dentists, offers either free or discounted dental services.
The Dental OPTIONS program, established in 1997, is a collaborative effort between the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Dental Association. It is designed to help those who cannot access traditional dental care due to financial constraints.
The program provides two main types of assistance:
- Donated Care: This service is aimed at older adults, individuals with disabilities, and those with serious medical conditions who need dental care but cannot afford it.
- Discounted Care: Available to adults with lower incomes and severe dental needs who lack dental insurance or Medicaid coverage.
It’s important to note that Dental OPTIONS does not cover emergency dental care or cosmetic treatments. Patients seeking help are pre-screened and may be referred to volunteer dentists operating in 40 counties across Ohio, including Franklin, Cuyahoga, and Hamilton.
