CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe City Council will convene tonight at 7:00 PM to review a series of legislative proposals, including appropriations, fee schedules, and city infrastructure updates.
At the forefront is the third reading of an ordinance to accept and appropriate $2,213.75 from Ross County, which reimburses the Chillicothe Fire Department for hazmat supplies. The ordinance is expected to be finalized tonight.
Several ordinances will enter their second reading, including one to accept funds from the David Meade Massie Trust for police evidence testing, and another that would appropriate $10,000 to repay a loan to the Ohio Public Works Commission for the 2023 street and alley paving project, both of which are being declared emergencies.
New to tonight’s agenda are first readings for multiple proposals, including the introduction of updated building and zoning fee schedules for the city and an ordinance to repeal and replace Chapter 901: Street Openings in the city’s codified ordinances.
Another ordinance gaining attention is the creation of an appointed City Arborist, aimed at enhancing Chillicothe’s tree management practices. This ordinance is also being declared an emergency.
The council will also discuss a proposal to appropriate $112,000 for the construction of a covered salt storage facility at 415 Renick Avenue, which is crucial for maintaining city roads during winter.
Finally, a resolution on the city’s tax levies for the fiscal year starting January 1, 2025, will be introduced for its first reading, marking the beginning of the city’s budget planning for the upcoming year.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held at 26 South Paint Street starting at 7 PM.
