CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On the evening of September 30, around 5:30 p.m., deputies with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence on Cooks Hill Road, just south of downtown Chillicothe, following reports of a burglary.
According to the police report, Dakota Colvin allegedly forced his way into a family member’s home and held the occupants at gunpoint. Colvin reportedly fled the scene before deputies arrived.
As the investigation unfolded, it was determined that Colvin had fled in a blue Hyundai sedan. Officers from the Chillicothe Police Department later located and stopped Colvin, taking him into custody at a local Walmart.
During questioning, victims told law enforcement that Colvin was upset about a social media post. Upon returning to the home, Colvin reportedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at one of the victims’ faces, and threatened to kill them. The police report details Colvin’s statement, in which he allegedly expressed frustration with the victim’s political views, describing the victim as “real left and liberal” and saying that their stance on guns was a source of conflict.
Colvin denied brandishing the weapon, claiming he left the gun in his vehicle during the altercation. Officers discovered a firearm, identified as a Smith and Wesson 9mm with one round in the chamber, inside the vehicle. The gun was seized as evidence.
Colvin was arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated menacing, domestic violence, and aggravated burglary. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
