CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The family of David Raines, represented by his daughter Cassandra Raines as the Administrator of his Estate, has filed a civil lawsuit against Jaison Mclean, the man accused of fatally shooting Raines.

David Raines, 55, was a respected member of his community, having served in the Air Force and later as a Lieutenant at the London Correctional Institution. At the time of his death, he was employed as a forklift operator at Shanker’s Warehouse.

The Raines family hopes that this legal action will serve as a deterrent to road rage and other violent behaviors, emphasizing the need for accountability in such incidents.

The fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday, August 13, around 5 p.m. near Corwin and Pickaway Streets in Circleville. Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find Raines suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to OhioHealth Berger Hospital but later died from his injuries.

Mclean has since been charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and felonious assault. An indictment was issued in September, and his trial is scheduled for December. The Raines family hopes that their lawsuit will not only seek justice for David Raines but also promote a broader understanding of the serious consequences of road rage.
