CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Chillicothe Police Department has released a heavily redacted report shedding light on a shooting that occurred last month near the Wobbly Ghost Tavern at 289 E. Main Street. The incident, one of three reported shootings in October, remains under investigation.
According to the report, officers were dispatched to the alley next to the tavern around 2:41 a.m. on October 12 following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found shell casings, blood trails, and a bullet hole in a nearby building.
Eyewitness Account and Evidence Found
An officer stationed near Main and Rose Streets reported hearing gunfire near Bridge Street. Dispatch confirmed that callers had reported shots fired near the Wobbly Ghost Tavern. Upon investigating, an officer spoke to a witness who alleged that two individuals in the alley behind the tavern fired at a third person near Advanced Auto Parts. According to the witness, the third individual returned fire before all parties fled the scene.
The witness claimed that one person ran toward Valero while the others fled down Ewing Street. However, the report states the witness declined to provide a formal statement or contact information.
Blood was discovered on the sidewalk at the intersection of Main and Ewing Streets, with the trail extending into an alley between 4th and Main Streets. The trail ended behind a residence at 335 E. 4th Street.
Additional evidence recovered included:
- Seven spent 9mm shell casings in the alley next to the Wobbly Ghost Tavern.
- A live 9mm round with a Remington Peters (RP) marking.
- A bullet hole in the building at 295 E. 2nd Street.

Police interviewed several people near the scene. A vehicle parked on East Main Street was investigated after reports of a male and female arguing before the shooting. The male was briefly detained for questioning but was released after officers determined that neither individual was involved.
Another witness reported hearing an argument in the alley behind Advanced Auto Parts, during which someone mentioned a name. Shortly afterward, seven to eight gunshots rang out, and people were seen running in various directions.
Ongoing Investigation and Charges Filed
Chillicothe Police are continuing to analyze evidence collected at the scene, including shell casings, bullet fragments, and other materials submitted for further examination. No arrests were detailed in the report; however, Guardian research has revealed that at least two individuals have been charged with felonious assault in connection with the shooting:
- Kortland Bates
- William J. Maddison-Allen III
