CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — In the early hours of January 3rd, deputies responded to a call about a disorderly male at Adena Regional Medical Center’s ER department. The incident began around 3:28 AM when the patient, whose name was redacted, demanded more pain medication while being treated for chest pains.
According to hospital staff, the patient became increasingly agitated, screaming at the provider, who then exited the room. Security personnel attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the patient reportedly jumped out of bed and attempted to swing at them.
Witnesses reported that the patient tried to hit one of the security officers in the face but struck him in the chest instead. The officer did not sustain any visible injuries from the altercation, according to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. The patient allegedly continued to be aggressive, hitting and scratching another security officer, who sustained a small scratch on his neck.
Despite efforts to calm him down, the patient remained unhappy with his treatment and continued to yell. Deputies collected photos and written statements from the scene as part of their investigation.
The sheriff’s office has not released whether the patient will be criminally charged in the incident.
