PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — An 18-year-old driver was killed and another man injured in a head-on collision on State Route 139 near mile post 5 on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 2:42 p.m. when Logan Alexander Etterling of Portsmouth, driving a 2011 Mazda 6 northeast, veered left of center and struck a 2010 Ford Escape driven southwest by Jeffrey Levi Riley, 29, also of Portsmouth, authorities said.

Etterling was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said. Riley, who was operating his vehicle on a suspended license, troopers said, was transported to Grant Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.

The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, which remains under review.

Emergency responders from the Rubyville Fire Department, Clay Township Fire Department, and Jefferson Township Fire Department assisted at the scene, along with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office.
