CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Historical Society is set to offer a day of history and learning on Saturday, March 22, with two events aimed at engaging both children and adults in the rich past of the region and beyond.
Junior Member Program: Exploring Chillicothe’s Hidden History
Kicking off the day from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the society’s Junior Member Program will take young history enthusiasts on a guided exploration of two significant local landmarks: the Lucy Webb Hayes House and the David Nickens Heritage Center. Designed for children ages 6 to 12, this program will introduce participants to key historical figures and their contributions to the community, particularly highlighting the roles of women and African Americans in Chillicothe’s past.
The adventure begins at the Ross County Heritage Center, where participants will embark on a walking tour to the featured locations. Along the way, they will engage in interactive learning experiences, and refreshments will be provided. Parents or guardians interested in registering their children for the free program are encouraged to call 740-772-1936 or email info@rosscountyhistorical.org.
Evening Speaker Series: The Story of Victoria Woodhull
Later in the day, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Historical Society will launch its 2025 Speaker Series with a special presentation on Victoria Woodhull, a groundbreaking 19th-century figure known for her roles as a spiritualist, suffragist, journalist, financial advisor, and the first woman to run for president of the United States.
The event will feature Ohio historian and artist Robin Schuricht, who will portray Woodhull in a first-person retrospective, offering insight into the activist’s remarkable life and legacy. This engaging presentation is free and open to the public.
Both events provide a unique opportunity to connect with history—whether through the perspectives of young learners discovering local heritage or through the lens of a trailblazing woman who challenged societal norms.
