CLEVELAND, Ohio — Two Macy’s locations in Ohio deemed “underproductive” have closed their doors.

Macy’s identified 66 of the 150 stores it plans to close by 2026 in January, including two in Ohio. The retailer announced in February 2024 a strategy to close 150 underproductive locations nationwide by 2026, aiming to return to sustainable, profitable sales growth, according to a company press release.

The closed Ohio Macy’s stores are:

  • Beavercreek (near Dayton): Fairfield Commons Mall, 2727 Fairfield Commons
  • Toledo: Franklin Park Mall, 5001 Monroe St.

These locations are no longer listed on Macy’s website, which now shows 18 remaining stores in Ohio, including one in Akron, one in Canton, two in Columbus, and four in Cincinnati.

Macy’s plans to continue closing a total of about 150 underproductive stores while investing in its 350 ongoing locations through its 2026 fiscal year, ending Jan. 30, 2027.

“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” Tony Spring, chairman and CEO of Macy’s, Inc., said in a statement.

Clearance sales for the 66 named stores began in January and were expected to last 8–12 weeks, according to the company’s website.
