COLUMBUS, Ohio — Meredith Gaudreau, wife of late Blue Jackets player Johnny Gaudreau, welcomed a baby boy named Carter Michael Gaudreau on April 1, she announced via Instagram on Monday.

Carter shares his middle name with his father and matches Johnny’s birth weight, also resembling him, Meredith noted in her post. “I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever,” she wrote.

Meredith revealed her pregnancy during an emotional eulogy for Johnny, who, along with his brother Matthew, was killed by a suspected drunk driver in August. Carter is the couple’s third child, joining their 2-year-old daughter, Noa, and 1-year-old son, Johnny Jr.

Madeline Gaudreau, Matthew’s widow, gave birth to their son, Tripp Matthew Gaudreau, in December, four months after Matthew’s death.
