Ohio Awards $6.8M in Housing Grants, Including $115K to Fayette County Nonprofit

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Development has珠 has allocated $6.8 million in grants to bolster housing support for nearly 1,200 low- and moderate-income Ohioans, with Community Action of Fayette County (CAC) among 19 nonprofits receiving funds, according to a news release.

CAC of Fayette County will receive $115,000 to fund essential home repairs and accessibility upgrades for residents aged 60 and older with incomes at or below 50% of the area median income (AMI). The grant will also support down payment assistance and housing counseling for households in the counties it serves with incomes up to 65% AMI.

The funding stems from the Housing Assistance Grant Program, tapping Ohio Housing Trust Fund dollars to aid nonprofits statewide. The program targets affordable housing access and better living conditions through repairs, accessibility renovations, limited down payment help, and homebuyer education.

“Ohio’s housing challenges do not begin and end with the cost of buying a home,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “The truth is, keeping a home safe and livable can be just as challenging for many families. This funding helps fill critical gaps for Ohioans who need support now—supporting essential repairs, accessibility updates, and down payment assistance that improve quality of life and provide greater stability.”

Nonprofits can use the grants to partner with local contractors for repairs like heating systems, plumbing, roofs, and electrical fixes. The funds also allow up to $5,000 per home for down payment aid and related costs, plus up to $500 per household for homebuyer education.

The Ohio Department of Development focuses on enhancing communities through investments in people, places, and businesses. More details are available at development.ohio.gov.
