HILLSBORO, Ohio — Southern State Community College’s (SSCC) Theatre is marking its 20th season with a mix of Shakespearean tragedy and uproarious comedy, while bidding farewell to its longtime director, Rainee Angles, who will retire in 2026, according to a news release.

The milestone season kicks off with William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” running Nov. 7-9, 2025, followed by Michael Frayn’s backstage farce “Noises Off,” set for April 10-12, 2026. Both productions will take place in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on SSCC’s Central Campus at 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

Angles, who has directed and designed nearly every SSCC Theatre production over the past two decades, will step down after shaping more than 50 shows, including “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “The Crucible,” and “Pride & Prejudice.” With advanced degrees in Theatre and Humanities and a career rooted in Hillsboro’s classrooms and stages, she has been the creative backbone of the program. Her final season will honor her legacy and the impact she’s had on students and the community.

“‘Hamlet’” follows Prince Hamlet’s descent into revenge and madness after learning his uncle murdered his father to seize the throne. The tragedy unfolds with ghostly apparitions, political intrigue, and a fatal duel. In contrast, “‘Noises Off’” delivers chaos and laughter as a troupe of actors fumbles through a doomed play, “Nothing’s On,” with slamming doors, romantic mishaps, and a wayward herring amplifying the hilarity.

“As SSCC Theatre takes its final bow under the direction of Rainee Angles, this 20th season will celebrate the chapter she’s helped shape—and include a few heartfelt surprises along the way,” the release states. “We invite audiences, past and present, to join us as we honor the memories, milestones, and magic that have defined the SSCC Theatre experience.”
