COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has approved the title and summary of a proposed constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes, titled “Abolishment of Taxes on Real Property,” on May 12, 2025.
Submitted on May 1, the petition aims to add Section 14 to Article XII of the Ohio Constitution. The Attorney General’s Office, as required by Ohio Revised Code 3519.01, reviewed the petition and confirmed that its language fairly and truthfully summarizes the proposal.
The next step involves the Ohio Ballot Board determining whether the proposal constitutes a single or multiple amendments. If certified, petitioners must collect signatures from registered voters totaling at least 10% of the votes cast in the most recent gubernatorial election, spanning at least 44 of Ohio’s 88 counties, with each county contributing signatures equal to at least 5% of its last gubernatorial vote.
Should the Ohio Secretary of State verify sufficient signatures at least 65 days before the election, the amendment’s full text will appear on the ballot in the next regular or general election occurring at least 125 days after the petition’s filing.
