WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A 35-year-old man from Georgia died Sunday morning after a paraglider crash near Earl Thomas Conley Park in West Portsmouth, authorities said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Portsmouth Dispatch Center received a call at 9:35 a.m. reporting the crash off U.S. 52. Witnesses reported seeing the paraglider, piloted by Timothy A. Williams of Byron, Georgia, fall from the sky while flying over a field near the Ohio River.

Williams sustained fatal injuries in the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Emergency responders from the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Portsmouth Ambulance, and the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

No further details were immediately available.
