WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Dave Taylor, R‑Ohio, and several congressional colleagues announced Tuesday the launch of the bipartisan Congressional Trucking Caucus, which they will co‑chair. The caucus is intended to provide an organized forum to address issues facing America’s trucking industry, according to Taylor’s office.
Taylor said the industry “powers our economy by creating 8.4 million jobs and securing American supply chains,” generating nearly $906 billion in revenue in 2024. He added that “after several tragic accidents occurred recently because of CDL drivers who could not read the road signs, it’s evident that change is needed to protect American lives on the road.”
The caucus has drawn support from major industry groups, including the Owner‑Operator Independent Drivers Association, the American Trucking Associations, the Truckload Carriers Association, the Ohio Trucking Association, the Fracht Group, and the Trans American Trucking Association.
Todd Spencer, president of OOIDA, said the caucus will give small‑business truckers “a stronger voice in Washington” and noted that more than 70 percent of America’s freight moves exclusively by truck. Henry Hanscom of the ATA called trucking “essential to our economy, our national security, and our way of life,” while Jim Ward of the Truckload Carriers Association said the caucus will help address “the industry’s most pressing challenges.”
Industry leaders said they hope the caucus will advance practical policies on issues such as truck parking, training standards, qualified driver requirements, and supply chain resilience. Thomas Balzer of the Ohio Trucking Association said the effort builds on Ohio’s own trucking caucus, which he described as “a successful proof of concept.”
