COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans who own or lease certain Hyundai or Kia vehicles may be eligible for compensation and free anti‑theft protection under a multistate settlement announced by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
The agreement provides several forms of relief for qualifying consumers, including free installation of a zinc‑reinforced ignition‑cylinder protector on affected vehicles. Owners whose cars were stolen or targeted in a theft or attempted theft on or after April 29, 2025, may also be eligible for restitution for related expenses.
According to the attorney general’s office, Hyundai and Kia will notify eligible consumers directly. Vehicle owners will have one year from the date of that notice to schedule the free installation at an authorized dealership.
Ohioans seeking information about eligibility or how to file a claim can visit the settlement websites. Hyundai owners can go to www.HKMultistateimmobilizersettlement.com. Kia owners can visit customercare.kiausa.com/SWLD or call 800‑333‑4542.
The settlement follows widespread reports of thefts involving certain Hyundai and Kia models that lacked engine immobilizers, prompting legal action by multiple states.
