SOUTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio — As forecasters warn of a major winter storm this weekend, South Bloomfield officials are detailing how the village will approach snow removal and keep roads open during the weather event.
Mayor Thomas said crews will begin by clearing major roads first, especially those that connect to U.S. Route 23 or State Route 316. He noted that traffic volume plays a key role in determining priority, pointing to the roughly 600 homes off Bloomfield Hills Drive compared with about 40 in Millport.
The initial goal, he said, is not curb‑to‑curb plowing but simply making major routes passable before moving on to lesser‑traveled streets. Once all roads have been opened at least once, crews will return to widen lanes and complete full curb‑to‑curb clearing.
“Our number one priority is to keep them open in the event of an emergency, to be accessible for police or fire,” Thomas said.
The mayor also reminded residents that on‑street parking is prohibited village‑wide during any snow emergency. While crews may not fully clear streets on their first pass, he said they will return to finish plowing and salting once initial access is established.
Residents are encouraged to monitor snow‑emergency levels and give crews room to work as the village prepares for potentially heavy snowfall.
