COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former Franklin County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Monday to 46 months in federal prison for violating an inmate’s civil rights.
Court documents state that in March 2022, the deputy “intentionally disclosed a pretrial detainee’s pending charge of rape of a minor to Gmier McCall, another pretrial detainee, knowing that disclosing the charges created a substantial risk that the victim would be assaulted by others in the jail.”
As a result, other inmates assaulted the detainee, causing a neck fracture, lip lacerations, contusions, and a concussion. The deputy “took no reasonable steps to protect the victim,” according to the court filing.
McCall pleaded guilty in November 2024 to conspiring to deprive the detainee of civil rights and was sentenced in August 2025 to 12 months and one day in prison. The deputy pleaded guilty in June 2025.
