WILMINGTON, Ohio — Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region this afternoon and continue into the late evening, bringing the potential for severe weather across portions of southern Ohio, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
Forecasters say the primary window for storms is between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., with the strongest activity possible during the evening hours as a line of storms moves east across the state. The timing breakdown indicates storms could reach western areas during the mid-afternoon, progressing into south-central and southern Ohio — including communities near Chillicothe and Portsmouth — between roughly 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service warns that strong to severe thunderstorms could produce damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes. Localized heavy rainfall is also possible, which could lead to brief flooding and quick runoff in low-lying areas.
Officials urge residents to stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and be prepared to seek shelter quickly if warnings are issued.
