COLUMBUS, Ohio — A federal grand jury has indicted a Delaware, Ohio, man who authorities say was found with multiple loaded firearms near John Glenn Columbus International Airport last month.

William T. Griffith, 40, was charged in January by federal criminal complaint. An indictment returned this week charges him with illegally possessing firearms as a convicted felon.

According to court documents, local law enforcement officers responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. on Jan. 9, reporting a trespasser in a construction area at the airport. Officers located Griffith at the scene and discovered firearms, including a rifle, a pistol, and a revolver, the indictment states.

Authorities said Griffith was wearing military-style fatigue trousers at the time of his arrest. Investigators also reported finding body armor with ceramic plates and a ballistic helmet equipped with night vision nearby.

Court records show Griffith was convicted of kidnapping in 2011, a felony offense that prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

No injuries were reported. The case remains pending in federal court.
