ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Huntington Local Schools was placed on a two-hour delay Tuesday morning after another bomb threat was called in to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, marking the latest in a series of threats targeting the district.

In a statement posted to social media, the district said the sheriff’s office received the threat call earlier in the morning.

“This morning, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office received another threat call concerning Huntington Local School District,” the statement read. “Law enforcement officers are currently on site, and a canine unit is en route to assist with clearing the building. Once the building has been fully cleared, we will provide an update to parents and the community. Thank you for your patience and support.”

Deputies responded to the campus and began safety protocols while a K-9 unit assisted in searching the building. School officials said classes would begin on a two-hour delay to allow time for law enforcement to clear the facility.

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office, along with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, has been working to identify the person or persons responsible for the repeated threats. Authorities have not announced any arrests and have declined to release details about the investigation, citing its active status.

Following the latest threat, some parents voiced frustration over security measures at the school.

One parent, who said they have six children enrolled in the district, reached out to the Guardian, saying:

“Huntington Local School District took down commenting abilities — this is my feelings as a parent with six kids at the school,” the parent said in a written statement. “Huntington took all surveillance down for our children prior to this new threat. They said FBI and Homeland Security would be involved for at least two months, and there would be constant surveillance of the school and extra officers daily there. But they took down the police lookout weeks ago, and there is only two officers there daily, my kids report.

“Now they receive another threat and are scrambling to clear the building because of the lack of security that should have still been in place per their reports to parents prior.

“This is pure incompetence on law enforcement’s part and the school. We want 24-hour surveillance till the end of the year. These are our babies we entrust them with and they are not taking this seriously until the last minutes.”

School officials and law enforcement have not publicly responded to those specific concerns.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the threats.
