WAVERLY, Ohio — The Pike County General Health District has released its January 2026 infectious disease report, documenting 15 cases of reportable illnesses last month.
According to the report, the most frequently recorded illness was chlamydia, a sexually transmitted infection, with four cases reported in January.
Health officials also documented three cases of chronic hepatitis C and three influenza-associated hospitalizations, meaning patients were hospitalized because of the flu.

Two cases of gonorrhea were reported.
Single cases were recorded for campylobacteriosis, a type of foodborne illness often described as bacterial food poisoning; pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough; and invasive antibiotic-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, a serious form of drug-resistant strep bacteria that can cause pneumonia and other infections.
The Pike County General Health District monitors infectious diseases as part of its routine public health surveillance efforts to track illness trends and respond to potential outbreaks in the community.
