JACKSON, Ohio — Two people were injured Tuesday morning in a crash involving a commercial vehicle on U.S. Route 35, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the patrol’s Jackson Post said the crash occurred around 5:24 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 35 and Township Road 213, also known as Cain Road.
Investigators said a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer driven by Joseph Borden, 64, of Birmingham, Alabama, was leaving the U.S. 35 rest area at Cain Road and failed to yield at the intersection. A 2018 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Michael Newkirk, 40, of Jackson, was traveling westbound on U.S. 35 when it struck the semi as it crossed the westbound lanes.

Michael Newkirk and his passenger, Shylah Newkirk, 34, also of Jackson, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services to Holzer Hospital in Jackson, troopers said. Borden was not injured.
The left westbound lane of U.S. 35 was closed for approximately 90 minutes while crews cleared the roadway. The crash remains under investigation.
