CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A new year-round farmers market pavilion is coming to downtown Chillicothe as part of a major state investment aimed at revitalizing the city’s Yoctangee Riverside District.

Local officials and vendors say the project, funded through the Appalachian Community Grant program, will provide a permanent, climate-controlled space for the Chillicothe Farmers Market, which currently operates outdoors throughout the year.

The broader Appalachian Community Grant program represents more than $500 million invested across the region. In Chillicothe, funding will support the construction of a multi-use pavilion in Yoctangee Park designed to host farmers’ markets, community programming, and other events throughout the week.

Organizers said the new pavilion will improve access to local food while enhancing park facilities and recreational space.

Currently, vendors operate outdoors year-round, often setting up tents in rain, snow, and fluctuating Ohio weather conditions.

In addition to providing shelter during winter months, the centrally located pavilion is expected to improve accessibility for residents who may not travel to other indoor market locations.

Supporters believe the improvements will not only benefit local vendors but also strengthen Chillicothe’s appeal to visitors from outside the area while maintaining the city’s local character.

Construction timelines and additional project details have not yet been announced.
