WAVERLY, Ohio — A man who was the subject of a recent missing persons alert has been found deceased in Waverly, bringing a heartbreaking end to the search.

Waverly Police Chief John Winfield said officers responded Saturday, Feb. 28, to 404 7th St. after receiving a report of a body located behind the residence over an embankment. Officers confirmed the male was deceased upon arrival.

Authorities have identified the man as Ryan Wrutzel. The Pike County Coroner responded to the scene, and the body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy was conducted on Sunday, March 1. The cause and manner of death remain pending.

Two weeks ago, the family reached out to the Guardian asking for help in locating him. A missing persons alert was issued in an effort to bring him home safely.

Instead, the case has ended in tragedy.

The incident remains under investigation.
