CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Union Township Fire Department has been awarded a $252,000 grant to replace critical breathing equipment used by firefighters during emergency responses.
According to the department, the funding will be used to purchase new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, commonly known as SCBAs. The equipment allows firefighters to safely operate in environments that are immediately dangerous to life and health, such as structure fires and hazardous atmospheres.
Fire officials said much of the department’s existing SCBA equipment had reached the end of its service life and was in need of replacement. The new gear will provide modern, reliable protection for firefighters and improve overall operational efficiency.

Department leaders noted that securing the grant allows the township to upgrade essential safety equipment without placing additional financial strain on local taxpayers.
The department credited Nationwide First Responder Grants for assisting with the grant process. Officials also expressed appreciation to the Union Township Trustees, Chief Timothy Grimm, and Fiscal Officer Cheryl Dubois for their continued support of firefighter and community safety initiatives.
Fire officials said the new equipment will serve the community for years to come, strengthening the department’s ability to provide emergency services when they are needed most.
