CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Huntington Local School District was targeted with yet another bomb threat Friday morning — the ninth since January — as a wave of serial threats continues to disrupt one of Ross County’s rural school communities with no end in sight.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office notified the district early Friday that another threat had been received. Law enforcement officers and K-9 units responded to the campus to sweep and clear the buildings before students arrived.
The district said the campus was secured and the school operated on a normal schedule on Friday.
But for families in the Huntington district, normal has not existed since the threats began. Nine bomb threats in roughly three months have forced repeated lockdowns, law enforcement responses, and a level of anxiety that no student, parent, or teacher in a rural Ohio school district should have to live with.
The Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified a suspect. It is unclear whether the investigations have produced any leads or where the federal investigation stands.
