SANDUSKY, Ohio — Residents across parts of northern Ohio may hear the sound of fighter jets overhead Tuesday as the Ohio Air National Guard conducts a scheduled air defense exercise.
According to officials, the 180th Fighter Wing will carry out the training between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on March 24.
Those in and around the Sandusky area may see fighter aircraft flying in close proximity to a Civil Air Patrol plane. During the exercise, that aircraft will act as a “track of interest,” a term used to describe a simulated potential threat.
Officials say the training is designed to evaluate response times and coordination procedures as part of ongoing air defense readiness efforts.
While the flights are planned for late morning into early afternoon, officials note the exercise could be delayed, relocated, or canceled depending on weather conditions.
