COLUMBUS, Ohio — A solemn wreath-laying ceremony honoring three Ohio airmen who lost their lives in Iraq is set for later this month at a historic Columbus landmark.

The Air Force Junior ROTC OH-871 “Spit Fire” unit, in partnership with the Columbus Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold the commemorative ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, at noon at Fort Hayes, 546 Jack Gibbs Blvd. in Columbus. The ceremony will take place in front of the historic Shot Tower, adjacent to the Red Poppy Art Installation.

The event honors three airmen from the Rickenbacker 121st Air Refueling Wing who were killed on March 12: Capt. Seth R. Koval, Capt. Curtis J. Angst, and Master Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons.

If rain forces a change of venue, the ceremony will move indoors to the AIMS gymnasium on the Fort Hayes campus.

The public is welcome to attend.
