CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A wrong-way driver triggered a deadly head-on collision on U.S. Route 23 in Ross County Wednesday afternoon, killing both drivers and shutting down a portion of the highway for nearly three hours, the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:27 p.m. today, when a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Dave Boggs, 76, of Waverly, was traveling the wrong way in the southeast lanes of US-23 and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander head-on. The Uplander was driven by Jason Day, 39, of Chillicothe.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Chillicothe Post are leading the investigation.

US-23 south was reduced to one lane for approximately three hours while investigators processed the crash scene. The highway has since reopened.

The crash remains under active investigation.

(Editor’s Note: The Guardian previously reported that the crash occurred on US35. According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash occurred beyond the US35/23 split and happened on US23. The Guardian extends our condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.)
