CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The City of Chillicothe will begin its annual large item pickup service the week of May 26, 2026, giving residents an opportunity to dispose of bulky household items free of charge, Safety Service Director Jeff Carman announced.
City crews will collect items including carpet, sofas, chairs, mattresses, and similar pieces of furniture. Paint cans will also be accepted as long as the paint has been dried out or mixed with sawdust first.
Items that will not be collected include stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, hot water tanks, heaters, old radios, computer equipment, air conditioning units, and televisions. Construction materials from demolitions or remodeling projects, as well as tires, batteries, chemicals, and hazardous materials, will not be picked up.
Residents are asked to keep large items separate from regular trash and place them at the curb. No pickups will be made in alleys, and Service Department employees are not permitted on private property.
Pickup is scheduled by regular garbage collection day as follows. Residents whose garbage is collected on Monday will have large items picked up May 26 through May 29, with no service on May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. Tuesday residents will be served June 1 through June 5. Wednesday residents will be served June 8 through June 12. Thursday residents will be served June 15 through June 19. Friday residents will be served June 22 through June 26.
