CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe police have confirmed that Tuesday night’s shooting on Fleet Street was a drive-by, with officers recovering seven 9mm shell casings from the roadway and multiple bullet fragments from inside a residence at 900 Fleet Street.

The resident told officers he was the only person inside the home when the shooting occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. Tuesday. He reported that someone fired on his home from the street.

Officers responding to the scene observed what appeared to be bullet holes on the northwest corner of the residence and at the front of the home. During a search of the area, investigators located the first shell casing in the 800 block of Fleet Street and continued searching eastbound, recovering a total of seven 9mm shell casings — five in the roadway and two in the grass on the north side of Fleet Street.

Inside the home, officers found that bullets had penetrated the northwest wall and struck a gun safe located near that corner. Three bullet fragments and one bullet base were recovered from that area. One bullet traveled through the northwest window, continued through the kitchen, and ricocheted through the hallway near the bathroom before coming to rest. A separate bullet struck the front of the home but did not penetrate through.
In total, officers collected and photographed seven 9mm shell casings, three bullet fragments, and one bullet base. All evidence has been submitted to the evidence room.

Investigators canvassed the area seeking surveillance footage from neighboring properties. Two nearby locations agreed to provide footage on April 9. The investigation is ongoing and no suspect has been identified at this time.
