CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Another cornerstone of the Chillicothe community is closing its doors for good.
C&J Electric, a locally owned business that has served the Chillicothe area since 1963, announced it will permanently close — marking the end of more than six decades of service to the families, homes, and businesses of Ross County.
The announcement came directly from the C&J Electric family in a heartfelt message to the community that captured what the business has meant to the people who built it and the people who depended on it.
“Since opening our doors in 1963, this business has been more than just work to us — it has been family,” the statement read. “For generations, we’ve had the honor of serving not only customers, but friends, neighbors, and families who trusted us with their homes, their businesses, and their lives.”
The closure is another gut punch to a Chillicothe community that has watched a growing number of long-standing local businesses disappear in recent years. C&J Electric was not just a place to buy appliances or call for electrical work — it was a fixture. A name that generations of Chillicothe residents knew and trusted.
“Every handshake, every conversation, every job completed was done with care and pride,” the statement continued. “That’s what made this more than a business — it made it a community.”
The owners acknowledged the weight of the decision, describing it as bringing “a deep sense of heartbreak” after decades of dedication to the people of the region.
Customers who currently have outstanding appliance orders with C&J Electric are being contacted directly by the business to discuss next steps and ensure those orders are handled through the transition.
