CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey welcomed a new deputy to the office and congratulated two longtime employees on promotions this month, the sheriff’s office announced in a Facebook post.
Deputy Cathel Joseph Cathel joined the Sheriff’s Office after graduating from Columbus State Community College with a degree in criminal justice and completing the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy, according to the office.
Sgt. Kyle Auflick, who has served in the office’s Corrections Division since 2006, was promoted to sergeant, and Cpl. Alec Davis, who joined the division in 2021, was promoted to corporal, the sheriff’s office said.
Hafey, a Teays Valley High School graduate and Eagle Scout, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1993 and served with the Presidential Honor Guard in Washington before serving aboard the USS Peterson, according to the Pickaway County government’s website. He went on to spend more than 16 years with the Circleville Police Department, joining in 2003 and rising to sergeant in 2015, before retiring early in 2019 to pursue his goal of running for Pickaway County sheriff.
The Corrections Division, where Auflick and Davis serve, operates the county jail at the Sheriff’s Office on Island Road in Circleville, handling the incarceration, classification and rehabilitation of inmates, according to the office.
