CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Berger Hospital’s intensive care unit has received a Bronze-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, a national distinction recognizing top-performing ICUs for patient outcomes and workplace quality.
More than 575 units across the country applied for the award this cycle, according to the association. To qualify, units must meet the AACN’s six healthy work environment standards, which measure evidence-based patient care practices, nursing workforce excellence and the overall quality of the work environment.
“The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers in outstanding units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care optimizes patient outcomes,” AACN President Rebekah Marsh said in a statement. She added that Beacon-designated units “serve as role models to others” in the nursing profession.
Casey Liddy, president of OhioHealth Berger Hospital, said the recognition reflects the culture within the unit’s nursing staff.
“Our ICU team embodies the very best of patient-centered care,” Liddy said in a statement, pointing to the team’s clinical expertise and collaborative approach to treating critically ill patients.
The award comes the same year OhioHealth announced a $10.2 million expansion of Berger Hospital’s cancer center, part of a broader investment in the Circleville hospital’s clinical services.
