PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Fraternal Order of Police Scioto Lodge No. 33, which represents Portsmouth police officers, raised $7,983.81 for its Shop With A Cop program through a roundup fundraiser at the city’s three Scioto County Arby’s locations, the lodge said in a statement.
Customers at all three restaurants were given the option to round up their purchases during the fundraiser, with the proceeds going toward the program, according to the lodge. Arby’s presented the lodge with a check for the full amount on Sept. 23.
Shop With A Cop is an annual program in which Portsmouth police officers take local children shopping for gifts for themselves and their families. Families are referred to the program exclusively through local schools, and all money raised goes directly toward purchasing the children’s gifts, according to the lodge.
The lodge, headquartered at 207 Front St. in Portsmouth, accepts donations to the program year-round. Contributions can be dropped off at WesBanco for the FOP #33 Shop With A Cop fund, mailed to the lodge in care of the Portsmouth Police Department at 728 2nd St., or brought in person to the police department’s records bureau or the police chief’s office. Donations are tax deductible.
In its statement, the lodge thanked Andy, an employee at the Portsmouth Arby’s, for arranging the fundraiser.
