ZALESKI, Ohio — The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help locating a 78-year-old Zaleski man reported missing Saturday.

Glenn Stout is described as about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 240 pounds, according to the sheriff’s office. Stout is a familiar presence along the Moonville Rail Trail, the roughly 10-mile hiking, biking and horseback-riding path that runs through Zaleski State Forest between the communities of Zaleski and Mineral, and deputies believe he may be in or near that area.

The sheriff’s office said it believes Stout may have dementia and could be in danger. Investigators did not say in their public appeal exactly when or where Stout was last seen beyond his connection to the rail trail corridor.

The Moonville Rail Trail follows a former railroad grade through Zaleski State Forest and past Lake Hope State Park, an area of steep, wooded terrain and two historic tunnels that draws hikers and equestrians from across the region. The trail is maintained by the Moonville Rail Trail Association, a volunteer group formed in 2001, and portions of it remain rugged and remote.

Anyone who sees Stout or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office at 740-596-5242 or 911.
