CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey has sworn in a new deputy, Hannah Rodgers, who joins the office after working for the Columbus Division of Police, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
Hafey administered the oath of office to Rodgers and asked the community to welcome her to the sheriff’s office “family,” according to the post. Rodgers said she was excited to begin her career in Pickaway County, the sheriff’s office said.

The Columbus Division of Police is the largest police department in Ohio and among the 25 largest in the country, with more than 1,800 sworn officers patrolling the state capital’s roughly 223 square miles. The department is internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
Hafey, a Teays Valley High School graduate and Navy veteran, spent more than 16 years with the Circleville Police Department, rising to the rank of sergeant, before he was elected Pickaway County sheriff in 2020 and took office in January 2021. He was reelected in 2024. An Eagle Scout who came up through Cub Scout Pack 744 in Ashville and Boy Scout Troop 159 in Circleville, Hafey also serves on the boards of Haven House of Pickaway County, the Pickaway Addiction Action Coalition, the Pickaway County Commission on Aging and Foundations4Youth.

Rodgers’ swearing-in continues a string of new hires the sheriff’s office has announced this year as it works to fill out its patrol and corrections ranks, including new deputies welcomed in July, August and September.
