CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Waverly native who earned her nursing degree at Ohio University Chillicothe has returned to her alma mater, this time as a clinical instructor guiding the next generation of nursing students through their clinical training.
Mandy Day, formerly Mandy Stanley, graduated from OHIO Chillicothe in 2003 with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing at age 19, according to the university. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009 through one of the campus’s early online cohorts.

Day spent 13 years working as a school nurse before earning a master’s degree in nursing education from Mount Carmel College of Nursing. She now splits her time between mentoring OHIO Chillicothe nursing students during their clinical rotations and serving as an outpatient educator for Adena Health System, where she trains nurses and medical assistants across the health system’s outpatient facilities.
“It feels like home here. I had the same experiences. I lived the same things. But now I get to do it in my own way,” Day said in a statement.
“I’m really excited to come back to a place I called home and be a part of educating other nurses,” she said.
OHIO Chillicothe offers both the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the latter available through online cohorts, continuing the pipeline that first trained Day two decades ago.
Day said her path from student to instructor illustrates the opportunities available to graduates who stay open to where their careers might lead.
“Never say never. Take every opportunity that you can because you never know when it’s going to benefit you,” she said.
