SOUTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio — The village has announced a free Halloween party for children at the Rick Brown Memorial VFW Post 7941, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 2 p.m.
The party is open to children from newborn through age 11, according to the village’s announcement. Planned activities include a costume contest, crafts, hot dogs, punch and cookies.
The event will be held at the VFW post, 3301 Northup Ave. in South Bloomfield.
Post 7941 was founded in 1979 and named in memory of Richard “Rick” Brown, a South Bloomfield-area service member who was killed in action in Vietnam on July 5, 1968. The post and its ladies auxiliary support veterans and their families and regularly open the hall to the community for events such as bingo, dinners and parties.
South Bloomfield, a Pickaway County village along U.S. 23 south of Columbus, had a population of 2,143 at the 2020 census and has been among the fastest-growing villages in central Ohio since 2000, according to Census Bureau figures.
The kids’ Halloween party adds to a run of fall events in the village this month, which has also included a community Halloween movie night.
