A man in Vinton County finds himself facing multiple more charges after he showed up to court for pending charges, only to find out he had a warrant for more charges; that man fled from deputies.

On July 3, the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call from the Vinton County Common Pleas Court telling them that someone inside the courthouse had a warrant and requested deputies show up and arrest him.

When a deputy arrived at the courthouse, VCSO says that Paul L. Scarrett, 39, Hamden, ran down the stairs of the courthouse and outside. Deputies gave chase and arrested Scarrett in the alley across from the courthouse on East Main in McArthur, VCSO said.

After being arrested, Scarrett said he had chest pains and asked to go to the hospital, the Sheriff said. Scarrett was transported by EMS to the hospital where, after tests were completed a Doctor stated Scarrett was cleared to go to jail.

He was taken to the South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail on the warrant, and the Sheriff says that new charges of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest will be filed.
