CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Pickaway Township Fire Department has won its division of Ohio’s “Light Ohio Blue” First Responder Photo Challenge for the third year in a row, the department announced on Facebook.

The department’s winning photo, credited to Steven Shearer, showed two of its apparatus, labeled L201 and G201, with an aerial ladder raised against a sunset sky and an American flag unfurled from its tip. The entry topped the challenge’s “FD Category 2” division with 284 votes and 1,341.5 points, according to the contest’s own results graphic, which the department shared alongside its announcement.

“We truly cannot thank our community enough for all the support, shares, and votes,” the department said in its post, adding thanks to “every department and participant who took part in this year’s contest.”

Light Ohio Blue is an Ohio-based group that supports the state’s first responders, encouraging businesses and residents to switch to blue lighting each May in remembrance of law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel who have died in the line of duty. The group also runs an annual, public-vote photo contest open to fire, police and EMS agencies statewide, with entries judged by category based on jurisdiction size and vehicle type.

“Three years, three wins and we couldn’t have done it without YOU,” the department said, crediting its community’s votes and shares for the run of titles.
