GOOD HOPE, Ohio — Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Rescue will open its station to the public twice this month, pairing a food drive and open house Oct. 17 with a trick-or-treat event Oct. 24, the department said in a Facebook post.
The open house, set for Saturday, Oct. 17, with an exact time still to be announced, will let residents tour the station, meet the volunteer crew and get a close-up look at the department’s response trucks, including the new tanker the department put into service last month. Visitors are also asked to support a food drive tied to the event, the department said.

The tanker joined the department’s fleet in a traditional “push-in” ceremony in September, when volunteers and community members pushed the truck into the station by hand, a fire-service custom that dates to the era of hand-drawn and horse-drawn apparatus. The department said the purchase was made possible by years of community support, including proceeds from its annual fish fry fundraiser.
A week later, the department will host a Community Trick-or-Treat from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the station. Families are invited to stop by for candy and hot dogs in what the department described as a fun, safe evening for kids.
Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Rescue serves the Good Hope area of central Wayne Township, roughly midway between Greenfield and the Fayette County seat of Washington Court House. Like many rural Ohio departments, it is an all-volunteer agency that relies on community fundraisers and events to help supplement its budget for apparatus and gear.
