PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The city’s Public Service Department will begin its annual curbside leaf collection program Oct. 26, with crews working their way through 15 collection zones and covering every street in the city twice over a six-week span, according to the city.
The first round of pickups runs from Oct. 26 through Nov. 16, and the second round follows from Nov. 17 through Dec. 9, with each zone receiving one collection in each round, the city said. The dates are tentative and could be pushed back by weather, equipment problems or a heavier-than-expected volume of leaves, according to the city.

Residents are asked to rake their leaves into the street next to the curb at least one day ahead of their scheduled pickup date. Leaves should be raked separately from brush or other yard debris, and any bagged leaves should be placed near the curb where garbage is normally set out, but kept apart from the trash itself, the city said.
The city is also asking residents to move parked cars off the street on their scheduled collection day, particularly on narrower streets such as the 1100 and 1200 blocks of 22nd Street. Leaves that remain covered by parked vehicles will not be picked up until the next scheduled round for that zone, according to the city.
Homeowners who hire a landscaping company or another contractor to rake their leaves are responsible for having that company remove the leaves from the property, rather than leaving them for city crews, the city said.
The full collection schedule, as released by the city, is as follows:
