DAYTON, Ohio — Today, the Communication Workers of America (CWA) District 4 announced their endorsement of Nan Whaley for Governor. This is the fifth labor union to endorse Whaley’s campaign – others include SEIU District 1199, the Ohio State Council of Machinists, the IUE-CWA, and OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4.
“Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley is exactly the leader we need as the next Governor of Ohio. Nan has long stood in solidarity with our movement and has been an active fighter for working people. That’s why CWA District 4 is proud to stand with her and support her campaign to make our great state more equitable, just, and liveable for everyone,” said CWA District 4 Vice President Linda L. Hinton.
“Unions are the backbone of our state,” said Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley. “Ohio deserves a Governor who prioritizes working people, starting with raising the minimum wage and protecting the right to organize — and I promise to do just that as Governor. I’m proud to stand with CWA District 4 and other labor unions as they fight for a better Ohio.”
Last week, the Whaley campaign announced an historic fundraising haul of more than $1.64 million for the first half of 2021, which is the most ever raised by a Democratic challenger for Ohio Governor in the first half of an off-year. Her campaign has more than $1.84 million total raised for the gubernatorial race. Nan has also been endorsed by more than 130 local elected officials and leaders across the state, the Ohio Democratic Women’s Legislative Caucus, 314 Action Fund, and EMILY’s List.
