CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Historical Society will host the grand opening of a major new
exhibit titled “200 Years of Quilts and Needlework 1796-1996.” The event, which is free
and open to the public, will take place on Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. at the Ross County Heritage Center, 45 W. Fifth St., Chillicothe, Ohio.
Featured will be more than 60 handmade quilts, a dozen schoolgirl samplers, and many
other examples of needlework dating from the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
Other grand opening day features include a free quilt care seminar by noted quilt
authority and appraiser, Amy Korn. The seminar will take place from 11:00-11:45 a.m.
with seating available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Following the seminar, Korn will provide individual consultations for visitors who would like to bring in and learn more
about a favorite old quilt. (Consultation fees are $12 per quilt with a limit of two quilts per
person. Consultations are on a first come-first served basis.) Additional features include
special table displays by the “Old Town Fabric Shop” and the “Sew Clever Quilt Shop”
plus hand quilting demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, and door prizes.
Those unable to attend the grand opening may see the exhibit during regular
museum hours: 1:00-5:00 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, through November 27. (Regular
